Becoming a radiologist.
Aspiring in becoming a radiologist someday? If yes, then you should consider reading this article first, Radiologist is commonly mistaken attributed as radiology technician (commonly known as x-ray technician). Let me first distinguish the difference between the two. Radtech is the one who is responsible in manipulating the Computed Tomography Scan (CT-Scan) machines, the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines, and the commonly use x-ray machines, they are also the people who is assigned in assisting the radiologist during a fluoroscopy and manipulating the portable x-ray scanners during an endoscopic or orthopaedic surgery and even in catheterization to assure right target and proper alignment while the radiologist, a physician, is the one who interprets the result of that specific diagnostic procedure or the one to holds and manipulate the fluoroscopy tube. Becoming a radiologist opens you to more comprehensive specialty, you can also be a radiologist specialized in reading images of organs from gastrointestinal tract, breast, chest and more.
The radiologist usually stays at radiology department of the hospital or institution that's why they usually have solitary work because they don't have much interaction with the patient. In some small hospitals, when the radiologist is off, the medical resident will initially reads the x-ray result then will relay the result the next day for proper and accurate interpretation.
Becoming a radiologist, you should finish more or less, 13 years in school plus the training. Gaining a good grade in your pre-medical (undergraduate) course gives you a high chance in entering a medical school at ease. You should have proficient knowledge in advance biology, anatomy and physics. After that, you should complete a five years of residency in hospital and be able to diagnose illnesses, some of this are kidney stones, internal bleeding, broken bones and more to gain excellence and become a good radiologist someday. Becoming a radiologist, you must pass the licensing board examinations to have license and be able to practice your chosen profession and be recognized as Board Certified Radiologist. Radiologist is a medical specialty which does not have much stress because they are usually not on call unlike surgeons and internal medicine physician that's why radiologist have more personal time to spend with their love ones. Becoming a radiologist is a job that is very fulfilling when you know yourself that you've worked hard for achieve it and most especially when you know that you and your job help the mankind by preventing complication and giving appropriate intervention. |
